A Study on Satisfaction of Employer for Worker with Mental Retardation and Related Factors in Supported Employment

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to research the satisfactions of employer for worker with mental retardation through supported employment and ultimately to suggest necessity of more effective supported employment services based on the satisfaction of employer. Employer have a key decision-making role in the hiring of any employee. Therefore, the negative attitudes of employer considered that it impedes opportunity and maintenance of employment. The satisfactions of employer for worker with mental retardation fell into four categories including individual and job-related factors, management and regulation-related factors, economy-related factors, social and environment -related factors. The results of study were as following: First, the individual and job-related factors includes appropriate grooming, work at a satisfactory standard, undertake most of the assigned tasks, work rate similar to others and so forth. Second, the management and regulation-related factors includes employer involvement in planning work integration, availability of additional assistance, employer knowledge of the Act for individual with disability, long-term plan by the employer, support of a disability employment agency and so forth. Third, the economy-related factors includes extra supervision, availability of training to co-workers, access to a productivity-based wage, cost of workplace modifications, availability of subsidies/incentives for employers, concern over occupational health and safety, higher rate of absenteeism and so forth. Fourth, the social and environment-related factors includes ability of staff to work person with a disability, belief in social responsibility, social awareness of disability, lack of social integration in the workplace, discomfort of other staff, concern about negative responses by customers and so forth.
